Mental Calculation Standard Task Rating Test
-Simulator covers the three standard tasks that are common to Calculation League and the Mental Calculation World Cup: (1) addition (without subtraction included); (2) multiplication; and (3) inexact square roots.
-There are three levels for the test. Level 1 is addition of five 5-digit numbers, 4×4 muliplication, and square roots to 4 significant digits. Level 2 is addition of seven 7-digit numbers, 6×6 multiplication, and square roots to 6 significant digits. Level 3 corresponds to the tasks as used at the Mental Calculation World Cup: addition of ten 10-digit numbers, 8×8 multiplication, and square roots to 8 significant digits.
-The regular length test has a 5 minute limit per section. The mini test has one-fifth the number of possible questions and has a 1 minute limit per section.
-Score is simply the number of correct answers submitted on the test.
-After completing a session, using the same framework as the Japanese abacus community, the simulator will assign you a kyu or a dan. Kyus refer to “in training” levels while dans are reserved for experienced competitors. There are 10 kyus and 10 dans. Competitors progress from kyu 10 to kyu 1 and then 1st dan to 10th dan.
-The app will display a results page that shows number correct and time taken for each of the three sections. It will also display any questions answered incorrectly with the submitted and correct answer.
-This simulator was released for testing on March 25, 2026. If you encounter any errors or glitches using the simulator, please let us know at contact@mentalcalculation.org
